Halloween

As most of you know from seeing our photos on our Facebook page, we dressed up for Halloween this year! It was so much fun!

Every since I was little I have loved Disney's Pocohantas and this year that was our theme. I dresses as Pocohantas, my fiance dresses as John Smith, and Koda dressed as Meeko the Raccoon. We made all of our own costumes and props.

We decorated a truck for the community "Trunk or Treat". Our truck was decorated as a teepee. We even made a campfire, canoe, and pond.

The Wedding Dog

Being recently engaged, I have been looking through lots and lots of bridal magazines and websites. I have noticed that many brides are including their dogs in their wedding. Dogs are part of the family, right? So why wouldn't they be included in the wedding ceremony?

Even before I started the planning part of my own wedding, I knew that I would like to include Koda in some part of this life changing even. It's going to change his life too. He will be moving to a new home, getting a new black lab sister and a new human dad to play with.

Koda

I have been trying to decided exactly what role Koda should play. I was thinking that I could include him in the engagement photos. That way if the venue I choose doesn't allow pets he could still be there in the photos I use for decoration.

My other option is to use him in the actual wedding ceremony. I have seen other brides use there pups for ring bearers and flower girls. I also thought maybe he could walk with one of the ushers.

They have lots of cute doggie wedding outfits to choose from - fancy collars and ties, doggie tuxes, and ring bearer pillows. So many decisions to make before the big day. I'm leaning toward the bow tie collar or collared neck piece with a tie (shown in the top photo).

I have never been to a wedding where there was a dog in the ceremony. I would love to hear about your experience with doggie wedding attendants. What's your opinion? Leave your dog at home and include them in a few photos or let them join in on the wedding celebration fun?

Hopefully something like this wouldn't happen...

This summer Koda has been loving the pool. Laying on the steps and floating on rafts are his favorite water activities. He doesn't care too much for swimming. Maybe he should go to Doggie Swim Lessons? If only they were offered in our area :(

Before you think of letting your dog jump in your pool check out these breeds aren’t as water-friendly as Koda.

Bulldogs

Greyhounds

Even a dog that knows how to swim can jump in a pool and not be able to get out, which could lead to drowning, so always keep an eye on your pup when they are near the water.

Here are a few doggie swimming tips to keep in mind when teaching your dog to swim:

Avoid excessive noise
Use encouragement - treats and toys can be used to encourage your dog to enter the water.
Never throw them in
Support their weight until they paddle - even if the dog is wearing a life vest support its midsection and hindquarters in the water until they start paddling and feel comfortable.
Show them how to get out of the water
Keep an eye on them

Please remember that more dogs run away from home this weekend than any other time of year because of the loud noise from fireworks. Even the echo and sound of fireworks several miles away can terrify a family pet if it doesn’t have a safe place to hide.

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE
• DO NOT take your pets along to the fireworks displays.

• Bring your pets indoors before fireworks displays begin.

• Make sure that your pets have access to their favorite, “safe place” or find a quiet, comfortable, enclosed room where your pets can, “hide” if necessary.

• If you go to a fireworks display and leave your pets at home alone, leave the radio or television on so there is some, “normal” background noise.

• Microchipping saves lives. Many of the pets that run away during the fireworks will escape by slipping out of their collars. Microchip identification can assure that your pet is returned if it ends up at a shelter.

4th of July Treats

Don't forget to your dog during this years 4th of July celebration. Check out these fun summer recipes that your LuckyPup will be sure to enjoy.

Pupsicles

Ingredients:

2 cups low salt beef or chicken broth
2/3 cup water
2 or 3 ice cube trays
Small rawhide sticks

Directions:

Mix water with beef or chicken broth and pour into popcicle trays. Place in freezer and serve cold. Add a rawhide stick halfway through the freezing. This recipe is quick, easy, and fun. It's probably best to serve this dish outside.

Dog Ice Cream Peanut Butter Banana Freezies

Ingredients:
1 Cup Plain Yogurt
1 Banana, peeled
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 T Honey
1 T Brewers Yeast

Directions:
Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and mix/blend until fully combined. Spoon batter in to desired containers and freeze. You can use three 4 ounce ramikens for this recipe. An ice cube tray will also work. These treats freeze very solid. It is recommend to slightly defrost before giving them to your dog.

Bite Size Doggie Ice Cream Treats

Ingredients:

2 cups vanilla yogurt (or plain low-fat)
Mashed bananas
2 tablespoons honey

Directions:

Mix ingredients and freeze in ice cube tray. Voila...sweet, cool bite-size treats for your pooch!

Use these bone shaped ice cube treys to make your pup feel extra special!

Here at LuckyPups we have a few new items out just in time for spring!

First off is our new stainless steel double diners. These diners are prefect for your dog's food and water or even for two dogs to share. There are 4 designs and 15 fonts to choose from. Two of the designs are made for 2 doggie names and as with any of our products, you can always request a custom design.

Another new product is our personalized doggie toy buckets. They are perfect for storing all of your puppy's toys, brushes, leashes, ect. They can also be used as a puppy Easter basket. You have the choice of a hot pink or blue pail.

We have always had personalized glass bowls, but we now have two new designs. The name of you dog will reach from the top to the bottom of the bowl. In the first design the bowl is completely etched except for the name. The second design is the opposite. The name is etched and the bowl is left clear. Last but not least is our traditional stainless steel bowl with new shape. It is designed for just long-eared breeds. The bowl is narrower at the top so ears won’t get in food or water. No more wet ears!

5 Foods You May Enjoy, But Are Toxic To Dogs

It's no secret - most dogs love food. Some breeds, such as Labrador Retrievers, are especially fond of any tasty treats given to them by their owners. However, not all foods that are appropriate for humans are also appropriate for dogs. In fact, some of the foods that you eat on a regular basis may actually cause serious health conditions if they are fed to your dog. Here are a few foods that you may love, but are actually toxic to your dog's health.

Salt

Salt is a very popular flavor additive in human food. Many people who make homemade dog food recipes think that they should add salt in order to make the formula appetizing to their dog. Also, some commercial dog food companies add salt to their low-quality formulas. However, an excess of salt can be damaging to your dog's health. If your dog eats too much salt it may cause health problems, as well as an imbalance of electrolytes.

Raisins/Grapes

Raisins, grapes and currants all contain an unknown toxin which is reported to potentially cause damage to your dog's kidneys. Kidney problems in dogs can be serious, and may require intensive veterinary care. Feeding your dog grape seed extract has not been shown to induce the same problems as raisins, grapes or currants.

Garlic/Onions

Onions and garlic are toxic in any form, be it cooked, raw or as a powder. The disulfides and sulfoxides in these ingredients can cause anemia by damaging your dog's red blood cells. Onions have a higher rate of toxicity in dogs than garlic. Never feed your dog a food formula that contains onions, garlic or any form of these two ingredients.

Chocolate

Most of us love to eat chocolate! However, it's also fairly common knowledge that chocolate can be very toxic to dogs. Chocolate contains caffeine, theophylline or theobromine. These toxins can cause a disruption of a dog's nervous system, and be toxic to a dog's heart. A dog that eats chocolate may also experience a rapid heart rate, diarrhea, vomiting and other symptoms. Avoid feeding chocolate to your dog at all costs!

Fatty Meat

Feeding your dog fatty meat table scraps may seem like a good way to dispose of waste. However, just one high-fat meal can cause your dog to develop a potentially serious health problem called pancreatitis. Dogs with pancreatitis may require veterinary care for the rest of their lives.

Koda's Christmas Cookies

My grandmother bought Koda the cutest Christmas gift - a mason jar full of doggie cookie mix and an ornament shaped cookie cutter! The mason jar was filled with all most all of the ingredients needed to bake the treats right from your own kitchen. All that had to be added was one egg and a 1/2 a cup of warm water.

The mix formed a dough that was then rolled out and cut into the Christmas ornament shape. I let Koda taste a bit of the cookie dough :). He loved it! The last step was to bake for a whole 90 minutes!

Koda was anxious for the treat to come out of the oven. 90 minutes seemed like forever! After the cookies cooled, Koda gobbled up a few of the cookies! He loved them! This was such a fun Christmas project. Thanks Nanny!

Just a few days ago an orange envelope addressed to Koda was left in the mailbox. What could it be?...A super cute Halloween card from Max Roberts Pomeranian! He even left a note to Koda in the card. He is such a thoughtful Pom. The card is hanging on the fridge right now.

We also carved a pumpkin this weekend. Being a graphic design major, I designed my own stencil. The cuts in the pumpkin create a cute little owl sitting on a branch with the moon and stars in the background.

Koda's New Leash

Yesterday I purchased a new leash for Koda. Being the right brained person I am, the plain red leash just wasn't good enough. So last night I decided to update the leash and make it a little more personal. I usually use my vinyl cutter to make stencils for sandblasting my LuckyPups products but this time I wanted to try it with paint. I made a polka dot design personalized with Koda's name and cut it out of piece of vinyl. I then used the vinyl stencil and painted the design onto the leash. Last I finished it of with a few layers of clear coat paint for protection. What do you think?

Happy 3rd Birthday Koda!

Koda turned three on September 10th. As always we had a birthday party for him complete with a doggie birthday cake, candle, cupcakes, cookies and presents. All dog friendly of course!

Koda's new friend and cousin Mylee was able to attend. It was her first birthday party to be a part of. She loved the sprinkles and icing!

First was lighting the candle and sing happy birthday.

Next the dogs got to try out the doggie cake, cookies, and cupcakes.

Last was Koda favorite part of his birthday... opening presents!

Koda received a toy furry owl and Skineez Moose in his gift bag. His cousin Mylee gave him a Jack toy and two bags of yummy treats. Mylee decided she would take over the new toys :) She is so tiny you can barely tell her apart from the toys!

Over all Koda had a great 3rd birthday!

Splish Splash

So a few days ago, I decided to let Koda go on a boat ride with us to the White River. To my surprise he LOVED it! He usually doesn't like water too much, especially baths. Even at the pool he just stays on the top step...never more. At the river it was a totally different story! He would jump, run, splash and play in the river. He had so much fun running from the water to the sand and back.

He also played fetch in the water, something that he has never done before.

Koda's 3rd birthday is September 10th and I will be doing a contest on LuckyPups Facebook Fan Page!

Yesterday I decided to create two blog buttons. One for people that have been featured on my blog and standard on that anyone can use. I had to look up how to create these buttons for my blog and thought I would share what I found out for other to use!

To make your own button:
• Create a 125 x 125 pixel image in an image editing program such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. Make sure you save the image as a .gif of .jpg

• Save your image to a website like Photobucket or Flikr

To put a "grab our button" on your blog:

• copy the following html code:

• open your blogger account and choose "design"
• click "add a gadget"
• choose "html" and you'll get a blank box
• paste the code you have copied in the box
• change the words "YOURBLOG" to your information.
• Change the link to your image. (You'll need to go back to photobucket or wherever you saved your image and get the direct link code.)
• click save

To grab a button:

• copy the html code from the button you want

Koda's New Collar

I recently ordered Koda a new collar from the Etsy shop Jennie B. Goode. They believe that dogs & cats deserve to have collars that are as fun and unique as they are!

Jennie decided to start making collars soon after she purchased her puppy Miss Sophia. Sophia is a super cute English Bulldog. After searching for the perfect collar, she eventually found the one she wanted at a local doggy boutique. The only problem was that it was $35! The adorable collar did end up on Miss Sophia's neck and spawned her desire to make fun and unique collars for a reasonable price.

I ordered the Masala dog collar for Koda. This collar features a beautiful pattern with cinnamon browns, butter yellows, pumpkin orange, all finished off with a coordinating brown buckle.

Jennie B. Goode's fabric collars are made with washable cotton fabrics that are lined with sturdy interfacing to add extra strength and stability while still maintaining the collars comfort and softness. Stress points are both double stitched and box stitched for extra strength and durability. They only use contoured buckles for comfort, top notch hardware and heavy welded D rings. The collars are machine washable on the gentle cycle in cold water.

Thank you so much for making Koda such a cute collar and sending him heart shaped treats! He loved them both!

Gruffins!

What is a Gruffin, you ask? A Gruffin is 100% organic dog treat that is shaped like a tiny muffin. It is made from bananas, eggs, honey, rolled oats, flour, granola, canola oil, and water. All Gruffins are home baked in Houston, Texas.

TinyLittleDogBlog was so generous to send Koda a free sample pack of their Gruffins. The first thing I noticed was the smell. They smelt so good that it actually made me want to taste them...but I didn't of course. Ha. The Gruffins were package in a resealable bag and were very fresh and moist when they arrived.

Next I decided to see what Koda thought of the Gruffins. He LOVED them! He wanted to eat them all at once, but of course I didn't let him. He still has a few left in the fridge for later.


Yumm! Koda wants more Gruffins!

There is a new K99 Ice cream Van in London. It serves frozen treats exclusively for dogs. Your four-legged friends can choose between two tasty flavors: "Dog Eat Hog World," which is gammon and chicken sorbet topped with a biscuit and served in a cone; or "Canine Cookie Crunch," which is a combination of mixed dog biscuits and ice cream.

Now most of us don't have a K99 Ice Cream van that come by our house. That's why I'm adding these easy to make doggie ice cream recipes.

Frosty Paw Ice Cream
32 oz. plain yogurt
1 mashed banana
2 T peanut butter
2 T honey

It’s true dairy products aren’t good for dogs, but yogurt contains much less lactase than regular milk and the live cultures are great for your dog’s digestive system. This dog ice cream recipe is delicious and good for your pet!

1. Mix all these ingredients in your blender, then dump into ice cube trays, paper cups, or even a kong toy to freeze and serve.

2. If you want to go all out for your mutt you can freeze these homemade frosty paws just like you would homemade ice cream. A salt-less automatic ice cream maker makes this as easy as using any other appliance in your home and the frosty paws will be ready to serve in 10 minutes.

For paw shapes:
Take the mostly frozen dog ice cream product of number two and spread it 1” to 1½” thick on wax paper. Freeze for five minutes and then remove dog ice cream from freezer. Next, use a paw shaped cookie cutter to cut a paw shaped “frosty paws”, remove ice cream around edges, and return paw shapes to the freezer to freeze solid. NOTE: This can also be made with baby meat instead of the fruit and peanut butter.

Pumpkin Pops for Pups
1 (1.5 oz) Sugar Free Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 cup milk, low or fat free
1 (15 oz) can pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

Whisk the vanilla pudding mix, pumpkin pie spice, and milk together until dissolved. Approximately 2 minutes.Fold, or gently stir in the pumpkin puree.Scoop pumpkin pudding into small paper cups, small plastic cups, or a plastic Popsicle mold.Place in freezer, and let freeze completely, about 3 hours.Take out desired serving size and let sit on counter for 5 minutes. Then release from the mold and serve.

If frozen this dog ice cream recipe will last for 3 months. If kept in the refrigerator, as a pudding, it will keep fresh for one week.

Pupsicles
2 cups low salt beef or chicken broth
2/3 cup water
2 or 3 ice cube trays
Small rawhide sticks

Mix water with beef or chicken broth and pour into ice cube trays. Place in freezer and serve cold. Add a rawhide stick halfway through the freezing. This recipe is quick, easy, and fun. It's probably best to serve this dish outside.

Etsy.com is easing artists’ sales tasks

LITTLE ROCK — Craftsmen, artists and collectors from around Arkansas have flocked to the website Etsy.com to sell their wares. Buyers, in turn, can go there to find artwork and handicrafts like photos, paintings, ironwork, woodwork, candles, soap, fabrics, hand-spun wool and yarn, scrapbooking supplies - even vintage dinnerware and decor- all from Arkansas vendors.

Etsy.com was conceived in early 2005 by painter, carpenter and photographer Rob Kalin as a venue for creative folks to sell their oneof-a-kind designs. The site went live June 18, 2005, and has been featured on shows like CBS Sunday Morning, Good Morning America and The Rachael Ray Show as well as in numerous print publications.Today, the site has more than 5million members and generates about $200 million in annual sales.

“About three years ago, I decided to start selling my art online,” says Dillon Chandler, owner of the Farmington-based studio VonChandler. “I figured I was missing out on a huge market.”
Chandler says he first turned to eBay.com to sell his metal lawn sculptures and decor, but soon found that the online marketplacewas inundated with cheap, often mass-produced goods that overshadowed his unique designs.After a few months, Chandler closed his eBay shop and resigned himself to selling locally. That changed, however, when a coworker recommended Etsy.Chandler now averages from 10 to 30 sales each month on thewebsite. “The first and foremost benefit [of Etsy] is the ability to display and offer my artwork to anyone in the world with a click of their mouse,” he says.

Worldwide exposure is a benefit many Arkansans are enjoying. Some vendors, like Rogers painter Jan Ironside and Hot Springs glassworker Jordan Kudabeck, get inquiries about their work from as far away as Australia and Europe.

Etsy also offers artists the ability to work from home. Just ask Susan Hinton of Fayetteville, who sells her electronic crochet and sewing patterns along with sewing supplies on Etsy.
“I don’t have to load my stuff up in my car and drive somewhere, set it up, sit all day - usually outdoors - or worry about the weather,” she says.

The keys to Etsy’s success, according to many Arkansas sellers, are its user-friendly web design, inexpensive listing fees and the site’s more than 724 million monthly page views.
“Etsy simplifies online selling,” says Bentonville artist Dave Clark. “They provide shopping cart and PayPal integration, not to mention intuitive drag-and-drop storefront creation software. No HTML knowledge is required.” “It’s nice to be able to point potential customers to a professional-looking online storefront,” he adds.

Cheap listing prices and lengthy auctions keep Kate Matthews of Little Rock coming back to Etsy.“It costs only 20 cents to list an item, and the listing is for four months,” she says.
Compared to eBay’s 10- to 35-cent insertion fees for seven day listings, that’s a bargain. Etsy’s commission fees are also negligible, meaning most of the profit from sales go directly to the artist.

“If it weren’t for Etsy, I wouldn’t have been able to indulge myself in the creative process at the level I currently enjoy,” says Susan McSherry, a mosaic artist from Marble Falls. “It has basically bankrolled my adventure in the arts.”

Etsy also offers online communities based on geography and types of artsand crafts.“The people I’ve met through that site have been extremely valuable in their knowledge of Etsy, the handmade industry and craft shows to participate in,” says Erin Jepson, a Fayetteville artist who sells hand-spun yarn. Jepson also leads the Arkansas Etsy Street Team, or AREtsy, to further promote Arkansas members.

“One of the best things I’ve gotten into on Etsy is the Dirt-Road Artists Team,” says potter Liz Gamelin of Mountain Home. “We chat in the forums daily, sharing our day-to-day lives, our Etsy successes and troubles.”That sense of community extends to buyers, who can choose the “shop local” option on Etsy’s homepage to find sellers near them. A simple click typically produces hundreds of search results.

“Etsy is like the farmers market of the Internet,” says craftsman Eddie Robinett of Jonesboro, who sells handcrafted birdhouses and signs. “Etsy is for people who want something other than an item mass-produced overseas.”

Eco Friendly Dog Toys

Recently my sister made a blanket out of her old softball t-shirts. She wanted an unique way to display her shirts so they wouldn't just be hanging in her closet. It turned out pretty cute!

Anyways she had LOTS of left over t-shirt scraps lying around. I decided to take a few of her scraps and turn them into a eco-friendly dog toy. I tried 3 different ways of braiding and knotting the material until I finally I decided on a that worked. Next tested it on my Pomeranian Koda. He LOVED it! I made a few more in different colors and listed them on my Etsy Shop today.

While I was out of town for the 4th of July this weekend I discovered this Self Service Pet Wash located right beside a car wash. I have never seen one of these before. Today I hit the 50 sales mark on my Etsy shop! It seems like I have been waiting and waiting for this and it has finally happened. I can't imagine what it will be like to hit the 100 mark!

I also added a new item to the shop - Personalized Pink Dog Bowls. If Koda was a girl I would definitely etch one for him. An English Springer Spaniel was the model for my new bowls. Isn't she cute! :)
